Someone’s Last 20-Something Birthday

Posted by on May 24, 2013

Varun and I were teammates on a trip when we met in North Africa. Over the course of several weeks, we became friends.

One evening we were taking an overnight bus ride across the country, which incidentally was 6 years ago today–Varun’s birthday. Somehow we ended up sitting next to one another (by accident *cough*cough*). Since I usually get deliriously tired at about 10 pm, by about 2 am our deep conversation was getting hard to maintain. I remember fighting sleep and thinking, “I’m so jealous of whoever gets to be his wife–she’ll get to have lots of fascinating conversations with him”. And next thing I knew it was morning and I was drooling on his arm.

Oh look, you thought I was joking about the drooling bit.

And, you thought I was joking about the drooling bit.

But it’s true: his wife does get to have lots of intriguing conversations with him–many at 2 am (which I’m sometimes even awake for!). And with each passing year I get more and more jealous of myself.

Instead of telling you all about the awesomeness that is Varun, I will simply show you…

Happy Birthday to my best friend, husband, partner in crime and the most wonderful man I’ve ever met. Thank for letting me drool on you, follow you around and talk to you at all hours of the night and day.

I am FREAKED OUT by your straight hair in this picture! But I’m loving catching up on your blog posts. I’ve told you this before, but you are SUCH a talented writer. I fully expect that someday I will read a published book by Amelia Rana, and it will be chock full of wisdom, spiritual insight and encouragement, AND that it will make me laugh so hard I’ll snort soda out of my nose. Love and miss you!
