As I alluded to in a previous post: we’re moving (AGAIN!)!
Actually, this decision has been in the works for a few months, and we’re really excited about this next step. We’ll be moving to a city closer to Varun’s workplace, and we’ll be saving money on rent. But what most excites us is the main reason we’re moving: to love our neighbors. (HUH?) Allow me to explain.
A few friends of ours are part of a network/ministry that sees the increasing need in cities around the world and seeks to respond as Jesus did: by being present. Currently, more than 50% of the population now lives in cities, and as such, there is increasing poverty, lack of education and other needs within urban areas. Those of us involved in this network move in to lower income/high-needs neighborhoods to live alongside and love our neighbors. Through involvement with community programs, ESL classes, or beginning by saying “Hi” in the elevator, the goal is to pray for, live in relationship and share Jesus’ message with those who are hurting and forgotten.
For us, this means moving into a high-rise building and intentionally meeting and caring for our neighbors. We have visited our building and are excited by the mosaic of people from varying countries and life circumstances. We are intimidated by the challenges we will face, but we know this is the next step and that God has been preparing us for this for a long time.
For the most part, due to privacy and safety concerns, I won’t share too much about this on this blog. However, if you’re interested in hearing more or receiving updates, email me or leave a comment to that effect.
For now, Varun and I are preparing for our Fourth Official (7th non-official) move since we got married. (GAH!!)
Please excuse the mess.
Let the adventure begin!
