Last Thursday, our file was registered with the Indian government agency responsible for handling adoptions (CARA)! This is big news!! Being registered with CARA means:
-Our paperwork chase is over (until we get a referral for a child)
-Our file is waiting to be matched with an adoption agency (RIPA) in India, then with a child’s file
-The Wait begins now
Hopefully, in the next few months we’ll be matched with an agency (RIPA) in India and know the region from which our child will be! In some ways, this is a lull period. A huge part of the fees have been paid, the paperwork is in, and we’re done getting fingerprinted and questioned (for now). On the other hand, from here on out, it’s pretty well out of our control. We could get a call in 6 months, or in 3 years. (Want to join us in praying we get a call within 12 months?!)
This week we’ve been feeling jittery and excited and very eager. We keep reminding each other it’s going to be a long wait. So for now, we’re washing dishes and going to work and spending time with friends. And decorating for Christmas. This weekend, I put out my Nativity and pine-tree scented candles. And then Varun and I sat on the couch and listened to Christmas music on Grooveshark. “Merry Christmas” (Third Day) came on, and we both froze. As we heard the lyrics for the first time, our hearts melted.
When we do the math, we realize it’s likely our Little One has already been born. Imagining him or her cold and lonely or afraid or unwanted breaks my heart. This song reminds me to pray for our Little One, and to wait patiently for the day when they’ll eagerly bound out of bed Christmas morning to check their stocking and beg to open presents.
Many people have asked how they can help us in our adoption. As you might guess, a huge hurdle is finances. We’re trusting God and He’s already provided for us in myriad ways. One way is through a lovely lady named Chantel, who has invited us to be affiliates of her awesome store.
So, wanna help? Go to Once Was Lost and buy some Christmas presents–shirts, jewelry or bags. Grab some cute tees or a lovely bracelet that’s made in Canada, supports adoption and has an encouraging message! Put our names (Amelia & Varun Rana) in the ‘note to seller’ box and Chantel will send 50% of the profits to our adoption agency to help cover our fees.
It’s so exciting to be on this journey together. Thanks for all of the comments, emails, texts and tweets of love and encouragement!
